Heavy Rains Overnight...

Most of the heavy rains stayed north of the Lake today as a "training scenario" has developed.   NWS believes this boundary will slowly slide to the south over night with the potential of 2-4" or more possible before it ends on Sunday morning. The highest flood threat will stay north of the Lake, but we could see 1-3" on the South Shore later tonight.  NWS reports 6-10"+ has already fallen farther north and Interstate 59 is closed due to high water in Mississippi.  Several bridges have been washed out and any travel across the North Shore should be kept to emergencies only.   We will need to monitor this heavy rain band as it sags farther to the south.   As mentioned yesterday, a strong upper disturbance has moved out of Canada into the northern plains and this is finally flattening the persistent SW upper flow that has stalled a front over the South.   Look for a cold front to bring us drier air for later on Sunday into early next week, but we have to get through tonight's rains first.   If we're lucky, most Sunday's rains will be over by 8 AM allowing for a dry track going to services and/or Mother's Day brunch.   Stay tuned!
