Let The Season Begin...

Tomorrow starts the 2019 Hurricane Season and NHC highlighted an area over the Yucatan for possible development during the next 2-5 days.  Satellite loops actually show several mid level spins.  One is just north of Nicaragua with the other over land on the Yucatan  Peninsula. The most likely scenario is for some tropical development to slowly occur once whatever forms gets into the extreme southern Gulf.  The Lower Texas & upper Mexican coasts are likely to see heavy rainfall early next week.  With the large upper high (which has kept us hot and dry) still in our neighborhood, it will be interesting to see if that moisture can reach us and bring an end to our 2 week dry spell.   There are a few daytime heating showers this PM and more could be around Saturday & Sunday, but rain chances  will remain 20-30% at best until later next week.

Visible/Daylight satellite loops show a large smoke plumb across the plains into the northeast.   I've read that the smoke might be from wildfires up in Canada.  Whatever, it should make for some pretty sunsets over the next several days up north.  The rains over the Plains, along with the daily tornado threat, have finally moved away.  It will take many days for rivers to crest & recede and the Corps has delayed opening the Morganza Spillway for several extra days hoping future crests downstream will not be as high as projected.  Regardless, the Bonnet Carre will stay open making catching speckle trout a challenge for many more weeks.   I am hoping my yard/garden gets a soaking soon or I'll have to start the sprinkler.

The FOX 8 Hurricane Special will repeat tonight after the 10 PM Newscast.  Stay tuned!
