Memorial Day 2019...

Every Memorial Day we are reminded of those soldiers who did not come home.  I'm encouraged that on this one day our country seems to come together to agree that Freedom isn't Free.   My service commitment involved the Marine Corps Reserves & the Air Force Reserves.   When I reported to the Marines down in Tampa back in 1971, the Colonel said he need a "Jeep Driver".  I replied..."Sir, I have a degree in Meteorology." to which he said..."son, perhaps you didn't hear me, I need a Jeep Driver".  And so my service career began.  I sent a note to my Senator in Indiana (Birch Bayh) asking if I could make an "inter-service transfer" to the Air Force Reserves to work in weather since I had a college degree.   It took many months, but my request was approved and that's how I ended up at MacDill AFB and then Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton.   I believe if everyone was REQUIRED to give our country at least one year of service, they would better understand that Freedom isn't Free.

Saw a couple of showers pop up on radar today and I think that trend will increase as we approach laer this week.  We are day 6 of 90+ and that's plenty hot to bubble up some daytime heating storms.  My yard sure could use a soaking.   Perhaps by Thursday & Friday?  Stay tuned!
