Pinch Me, It's May...

After our weekend's storms, a cold front pushed off the LA/MS coast allowing much drier air to invade our state.  Dewpoints that were in the mid to upper 70s on Saturday & Sunday are in the 50s this afternoon.  That's good feeling air that should see temps dip into the 50s north of the Lake and some 60s south.     In fact, I did some gardening today and didn't even work up a sweat.  It appears the next 2-3 days will stay with this air before the muggies are back by Friday and the weekend.   We all know we are on borrowed time and, as we pass mid-May, the next focus will be our 1st 90 degree day.   That won't happen this week so get out and enjoy the Spring feel before Old Lady Summer kicks in.  I was at Perino's in Metairie today looking for "different" blooming plants and couldn't help but notice the variety of flowers labeled "heat tolerant".  Years ago, once the nights stayed 70+ and days topped 90+, you didn't have too many options on what you could grow during June-September.  Not any more.  I intend for my yard to have bright colors all summer long.  It's a challenge for sure, but science has helped make it easier.  Stay tuned!
