It's Finally Time to Turn Out the Lights...

We have reached the end of the 1st week in October and past history tells us there has never been a Cat. 3+ hurricane make landfall on the LA/MS coasts.  Sure we had Hurricane Juan (Cat 1) back in late October 1985, but that required no evacuations inside the levee protection system.   The "Fat Lady" says she can sing anytime this week so I have scheduled her for tomorrow evening.    The reason for such optimism is "the fronts are coming"!   Satellite pictures clearly show where it is and temperatures behind it are noticeably cooler.

A stronger front will push through by Saturday and that will make for comfy cool mornings and pleasantly warm afternoons.   Hopefully we can get some rain out of these fronts as most of us need some real soakers.   The tropical threat now will shift to our east during the next 6-8 weeks.
NHC has several areas east of Florida highlighted and it appears our next named storm (Melissa) will develop just off the east coast.  Strong winds will batter locations from Cape Cod down to the Carolina Outer Banks.   For us, that rotation will drive cooler and drier air into the Gulf South.   Upper shear will be our friend for the rest of this hurricane season.

I really enjoyed my birthday weekend all planned by my lovely wife.  It was Clancy's on Friday night, G.W. Fins on Saturday followed by Ruth's Chris' on Sunday night at the Hard Rock Casino in Biloxi.  We attended the Tony Bennett concert at the Beau Rivage to highlight my weekend.  Add in wins by Tulane, LSU and Our Saints and it was a great weekend!  Stay tuned!
