I know it sounds like a Yogi-ism, but most of us have been dry for the past 4-6 weeks. This evening a band of showers/T-Storms set up just west of the airport and a "training effect" produce some really heavy rain totals. MSY recorded over 1 1/2+" while radar estimates exceeded 4-6" in parts of St. Charles. My house only received about 1/3 of an inch but it was welcomed and much needed.
Rain coverage on Friday will be greater as a strong cold front spreads down to the Gulf Coast. Can you find the front tonight? It feels like Winter over the Rockies while we're still summer-like. The core of the cold will stay well to our north, but we should be noticeably cooler for Saturday and Sunday. Another front will come late next Wednesday into Thursday, but I'm not seeing that deep East Coast upper trough that would bring us some heavy coat weather.
NHC is highlighting an area down in the Caribbean for possible development, but these fronts will keep any threats away from us.
This weekend should be a real treat, perfect weather for LSU/Florida. Stay tuned!
