Get Ready For Fog Season...

One of the first things I learned when I joined Ch. 8 back in 1978 was when does "fog season" begin?   I checked with the local NWS office, which was headed by the late Dave Barnes ((Ch. 4 weathercaster in the 90s) and was told once the water temperatures of Lake Pontchartrain dipped below 60, it was time to be on the lookout for fog.  Remember, for fog to form, you need a cooling process (radiation with light winds or advection of warm, moist air ).  It's the latter that we fear most as the warmer air is cooled as it crosses over the colder waters.  Lake and nearby waters have cooled into the mid to upper 50s so we'll have to start to pay attention later next week for sea fog as computer guidance indicates air temps in the 70s will be returning.  That won't happen for several more days as satellite pictures show a deep east coast storm off the Carolinas is driving/reinforcing the cool, dry air mass currently over us.

The Gulf muggies are well offshore with only high, thin clouds spreading in from the west.  You can see the warm up coming and we're not likely to see another Arctic blast until after Thanksgiving.
The focus now is on Tampa Bay and our Saints.   Unless I'm a complete football fan dummy, I seeing our Saints rebound with an offensive outburst.   Saints 38 Bucs 24  Who Dat!  Stay tuned!
