To Warm or Not To Warm...

Yesterday's post had info on an article from SEVERAL car magazines (I quoted Popular Mechanics) regarding the no longer need to warm up your car in cold weather.  I put gas in my car and air in my tires.  Anything else I go to the pros.   Some of you took that idea as if it were mine.   Since I lived my youth up north, here's what I remember.   You started your car in very cold (below 10 degrees) weather hoping the battery would turn over the engine.  If it did, you had to clear off the windows from frost and/or snow.  If it were snow, you had to sweep the whole car including the roof.  All of that usually took 3-5 minutes.  So if indeed you no longer have to warm up your car, you still have to clear the windows for visibility sake.  Great comments.  Thanks.

This weekend looks terrific, if you are dressed for it.  Mornings will be chilly with highs 60-65.  All clouds and low level moisture has been pushed far off our coast as a big storm tries to develop off the Carolina coasts.  That will keep us on the dry side with northerly winds into early next week.

The recent very cold weather has retreated back up to the north and I don't see any new Arctic blast coming for the next 7-10 days.
We will warm into the 70s for the latter parts of next week.   FYI...based on satellite data, this is the second coldest first 15 days of November for the U.S. bested only by November 1991.  The last 15 days won't be as cold, but the month as a whole should end up below normal.  Thought these numbers are interesting.  For the U.S. , year to date...16,688 new record highs with 16,679 new record lows (almost exactly equal).  So why is the AVERAGE temperature warmer?  It's due to warmer nighttime lows caused by urbanization and more people on the Planet.  This will be an interesting Winter to watch as many indications points to brutal cold with lots of snow.  Stay tuned!
