Sneaky Clouds & River Rise...

My last post I mentioned clear skies as one of the requirements for freezing temps.  After we cleared around noon, that appeared to be the case....but nooooo, there's more Lee Zurik.  The fast moving sub-tropical jet stream has quickly spread a cloud deck back over us.  That could be enough to keep over night lows from getting as cold as forecasted.  Doesn't matter for me as I've already prepared for a light freeze.  If it doesn't happen, all the better.

It could just be a temporary cloud deck with clearing after midnight?  Whatever, NWS has issued hard freeze warnings for the North Shore and Light Freeze warnings for the South Shore.  Remember the pipe rule.  You do not need to start running a small pencil thin ribbon of water until temps get well below freezing(28) and stay there for 4 hours or more.   Keep watching your Fox 8 Weather App to check on the temp before you go to sleep.  The other sneaky thing is the Mississippi River at the Carrollton gage is above 10 feet again and is expected to crest above 11 feet this weekend.   Fortunately, the River is falling all the way up to Cairo so once this minor crest passes, the River will quickly get back to below 9 feet by December 1st.   We don't want another prolonged high water season and NO opening of the Spillway in 2020.  Stay tuned!
