When I was working on-air, one of my favorite things was pointing out features on satellite pictures. Sadly, most weathercasters rarely point out these tiny features anymore...a lost art.
You can see the tiny ribbon of clouds (cold front) that has reached the tip of the Yucatan with cold air clouds forming down over the Gulf stream warm eddy. Notice there are no clouds over the near coastal waters since they have cooled down into the 50s & 60s. But once that cold surface air moves over the 70+ warm Gulf waters, clouds form. Fortunately, the core of this recent cold will stay to our north and east with a slow warm up coming for the rest of this week. However, tonight will see below freezing temps across the North Shore and some near freezing temps south away from Lake P.
A weak system will arrive on Friday with a brief cool down for this weekend, however, near week a much stronger front will blow through with a potential for freezing temps even on the South Shore. Something to watch. Stay tuned!
