A Whale In Da Bayou...

I was out fishing yesterday for the 1st time since my hernia surgery, and with near zero tide movement & strong (15-20+) winds, we were not expecting to catch much.  Surprisingly, we ended up with 28 trout, 5 bass and one HUGE black drum.  Our Captain, Hylton Petit hooked into a big fish on light tackle.  He thought it could be a shark, a big sheepshead or a big red.  After a 15 battle and an assist from first mate John Lewis, he landed a 40+ lbs black drum.  As you can see, it was a large fish which we released.   So nice to be back able to enjoy our Louisiana marsh.
Was watching FOX 8 this morning and Zack Fradella showed a neat calendar graph that has the first 18 days of January above normal.  That's about to change as a strong cold front will arrive after midnight finally bringing us several days of below normal temperatures.

The good news with this front is it should quickly move through with rapid clearing behind it.  It will be cold Sunday into Thursday, but at least it should be sunny.

I don't see another storm coming out of the southwest for most of next week.  What I'll be watching is to see how much of the bitter Arctic air heads down to us?

The North Shore will see several mornings below freezing, but the South Shore looks to stay 35-40 since Lake P. has warmed back into the 60s.  The next couple of weeks should be much cooler than the past 3-4 weeks.  Finally, I close with a radar picture of the current snowstorm over the Northeast and the 72 grapefruit my much younger and more athletic neighbor David picked from my grapefruit tree.  Get out your heavy weather gear as the big chill is coming.  Stay tuned!
