Cold Will Feel Colder Next Week...

As many of you have complained for weeks, we have been in a long (6 weeks) stretch of mild/above normal weather.  January reality is about to set in as we have several cold fonts coming.  Unlike up north where it gets cold and stays cold, we deal with a roller coaster temperature ride of up and down.  This never allows our bodies to acclimate so the cold feels colder when it arrives after being so warm for so long.   The coming cold will be the network headlines for many days, especially after today's "warmest decade" headline from NOAA.

The blow zero line should reach Chicago despite the fact they have no snow on the ground.  Iowa & Wisconsin are snow covered (note the rivers showing up), but Illinois & Indiana have none.   That will all change as the upper trough flip from e west coast to the east bringing down the Arctic blast.
Our problem has been the daily morning fog.  You can see a line of clouds with a weak front across the North Shore that should increase our winds overnight keeping the fog up off the ground as a low cloud deck.   A big swirl is along the west coast and that will spark a big storm moving out of the Rockies on Saturday.

Cold air reaches us before dawn on Sunday with a secondary, stronger surge arriving later on Monday.  It will be back to heavy coats and sweaters for next week with a hard to moderate freeze on the North Shore and near freezing south of Lake P. for Tuesday & Wednesday mornings.  Models quickly warm us for later next week, but that may be overdone?   Once deep cold settles in, it's sometimes hard to move out.   Get ready & stay tuned!
