Bigger May Not Be Better...

When I first started riding in Mardi Gras parades back in the early 80s, what caught my attention was the size of the floats and how close the crowds were to moving floats.  Being from NW Indiana (Hammond), our parades were way smaller with no people near the floats (decorated flat bed trucks).  I feared, even back then, that someone could get run over by a float.  Throwing plastic cups out to the crowd, I could see many folks with glassy eyes (too much booze) pushing and shoveling others around them.   Yesterday's 2nd death at a parade this year comes as no surprise to me.   Instead of trying to blame someone, we need to focus on solutions that will prevent future tragedies.

The upper disturbance, yesterday over California, has shifted into the Rockies with a large rain shield setting up to our north.  Tonight's parades will have no issues, but Monday will be a different story.
RIGHT NOW, we know it will stay mild through Mardi Gras with a big cool down coming for Wednesday through Friday.  Best chances for any rain come on Monday into Monday night with Fat Tuesday looking mostly dry.   Super cold air (25-30 below zero) lingers up in Canada and models hint that we will be in a colder pattern as we head into March.

But our focus is the short term, which doesn't look perfect for Monday.   Timing will be crucial for Bacchus.  Stay tuned & stay safe!
