Most News Is Good...Almost

Listening to all the experts saying the curve is flattening regarding Covid 19, we all keep looking for any nuggets of good news.   The Corps ' opening the Spillway is having the necessary result as they are keeping the crest at 17' here on Easter Sunday with a rapid fall starting by the end of next week.  In fact, farther to the north on the Ohio River (it comprises 70% of the flow to the lower Mississippi), the falls have increased to 2-3 feet/day!

Unfortunately, a storm system soaking southern California will head our way over the weekend brining more heavy rains to our north that will temper the falls heading down the Ohio River.  In addition, SPC (Storm Prediction Center) indicates there is a very good potential for a severe weather outbreak beginning late Saturday into early on Sunday.   It's far too early to know how high the risk will be here, but it's something we'll need to pay attention to on this Easter weekend.

In the short term, a cold front will waddle through SE LA/MS over night bringing an end to our too warm temperatures.   A few showers could be with the front , but the better rain chances come late Saturday into Sunday.  Notice how chilly it is up north where some snow is falling.   We will feel that chill next week when the North Shore could dip into the 40s with 50s south.

Finally, several times my wife & I, along with another NOLA couple, would rent a condo at Orange/ Perdido Beach mid to late April before the crowds of parents with children arrived in May through September,   Sometimes the weather would be warm (like today) but not hot and skies were mostly sunny (like today).  We mainly had the beach to ourselves along with the restaurants & local shops.  This year the virus has made it a wasted great weather time from Biloxi to Panama City.   I miss it, but feel for all the people without jobs/income along with the thousands of small business owners coping to stay afloat.  When you start to feel bad for yourself, remember many more have it way much worse.  Stay home, stay healthy & stay tuned!
