Weekend Heat Wave?

After a semi-wet week, computer guidance is indicating an upper high will build eastward from the plains over us making us drier and hotter for this weekend.  Let me start by thanking those of you who responded to my last post.   I'm glad it's just not me who has noticed the changes over the years.  What's left of now Depression Bertha is near Columbia S.C. heading to the north.  Her energy will interact with a cold front on Friday bringing the potential for severe storms to the Northeast.

We have been following a slow moving cut off low now nearing Little Rock that should finally pass to our north tomorrow.  We have seen some drier air rotate around the southern side with the more numerous storms well to our east.

Notice again how it's hotter (90s) farther to the north in sunshine and less hot under the clouds and showers.  The surface map has several weak frontal boundaries, but the main drivers of today's rainfall are the Arkansas upper low and the remains of Bertha coupled with daytime heating.

As satellite and radar shows, the bulk of the storms are to our north and east.  Thursday looks mostly dry with a slightly better chance for storms on Friday as the upper trough sneaks by.  Saturday through Monday begins our heat wave as we say hello to June.   FYI...the GFS is again placing a hurricane in the central gulf near us for the second week of June.    Until the Euro latches on to that thinking, I'm not ready to get nervous.  Stay tuned!
