Hanna To Become First Hurricane?

The 4 PM update from NHC indicates Tropical Storm Hanna will become a Cat. 1 Hurricane before making landfall south of Corpus Christi midday around noon time Tomorrow.  But I have doubts as to why that might not happen.  See if any of the local weathercasters pick up on that.  Or do they just repeat what NHC puts out in their discussion?

On satellite presentations there is no question that Hanna is becoming better organized with banding features all around it.  However, she remains asymmetric (lopsided) with most of her T-Storms on the south and east sides. The Hurricane Hunters could not find any winds much above 50 mph and that's because of the lack of banding or an eyewall.  She only has another 18 hours to strengthen and that often happens when a storm approaches a curved coastline like Texas.

The centerline track is just south of Corpus Christi so that city will get in on the worse of Hanna towards daybreak.   Since Hanna has not developed rapidly, lots of deep Gulf moisture remains over us so we are likely to see above normal clouds and showers into next week.  The benefit to us, temps are less hot.

Two days ago Tropical Storm Gonzalo was predicted to become the first hurricane of the 2020 season.  Satellite pictures show a barely surviving storm and he is no longer expected to become a hurricane before weakening over the eastern Caribbean.

Finally, a disturbance that moved off of Africa yesterday is now given a 40% chance to develop early next week.  The Euro model takes this system NORTH of the Islands and hopefully that means it recurves way before threatening the U.S.

What will be fun to see is how weathercasters pronounce the next named storm, "Isaias".   I would say 3 syllables Eye-say-ahs.  But here the NHC pronunciation...ees-ah-EE-ahs.   Good luck with that!  Enjoy your weekend.  Might have another update around 10 pm.   Stay tuned!

What an ugly comment. Don’t tune in. Many of us appreciate his updates. Bob, please continue. This person needs to move it along.
