Media Braveness or Folly?

I can almost guarantee someday in the future we are going to see a reporter or meteorologist get killed by flying debris during a major hurricane.  I saw 4 videos that scared the on camera talent...one being a guy talking when a transformer blew right behind him with a loud pop, another in a parking garage when a large piece of debris landed right behind him, but the scariest being The Weather Channel's Stephanie Abrams running for cover as glass and stucco came crashing down on her.

Kudos to my friend Jim Cantore who at least wore a hard helmet.  Just me, but I think there is no need to get in harm's way.  Let pictures tell the story, but don't become THE story.

We still have some lingering showers, but the severe threat is over and the Tornado Watch was not extended.  Tropical Storm Laura has dropped down to 50 mph winds and continues moving at a quick pace (NNE @ 15).

Winds and seas keep dropping and water levels are gradually coming down.   Under Laura's cloud and rain shield, temperatures are in the 80s, but outside that there's still August heat.

Many states are under Laura's cloud pattern with a tail following over us into the Gulf.

There is a tropical wave over the western Caribbean that could bring us another surge of moisture by Sunday.  Out in the Atlantic are 3 waves, 2 of which NHC give low chances for development.  I'm not ready to track any more trouble right away.  Let's just be thankful Laura avoided our location.  Stay tuned!

I couldn't agree more regarding the safety of the reporters. No need to put yourself in harm's way. That was a close call that could have been horrible. Thanks for your devotion to all of us and keeping us informed in your retirement years.

Sadly that is what happens when sensationalism and entertainment replaces news and science.

If reporters wish to play stupid games....... Let Darwinism take it's course

I don't care for the meteorologist Stephanie you just wrote about. She gets tooooooo darn excited around hurricane time and never thinks about people watching that have lost their home jobs family members during Katrina or any other storm - Simone needs to tell her to tone down.
