A Front Did Come Through...

Yesterday I mentioned TWC had drawn a cold front just off our coast south of us.  Found that hard to believe since our dew points were still in the 70s.  Well, when I went out for the paper this morning, whalla, what a feel!   It definitely was drier.

Not that we're any cooler as we'll be up in the 90s, but look at the DPs, from 74 yesterday to 64 now.  Yes, it's still very hot, but it is less humid and you can feel it IN THE SHADE.

Those north winds will veer around to the ENE tomorrow and then ESE for later this week.  Models are still confused regarding the strength of our "real" cold front late Thursday into Friday.  In fact, there are some signs that it might not make it, while other models blast it through.

The current surface map shows a couple of cold fronts up over the Rockies, but the real cold air (30s & 40s) remains up in Canada.  The deeper we get into September, the better our chances for a "real" front.  It's all about being patient.  The Tropics appear ready for takeoff as NHC has 4 areas to watch.

Two well defined swirls have moved off of Africa and NHC gives them 90% chances for development,,,translation, it's gonna happen.  Our next name is Paulette.  Closer in are 2 small swirls that NHC gives low chances to develop.

Neither looks very promising right now, but IF I were a betting man, the swirl well off the East Coast stands the better chance of becoming something, but development will be slow.

Locally, the Gulf is quiet and we'll be mostly dry today with perhaps a few storms bubbling up Tomorrow PM.

Finally, I've been showing you some of my colleagues who worked with me over the decades.  These pictures show 2 of my competitors from the early 80s judging what appears to be a Halloween pumpkin carving contest. (What does that have to do with weather?)   The late Dave Barnes was the head of the local NWS office at the time and would go into broadcasting with Ch. 4 shortly thereafter.  Dan Milham was the longtime Ch. 6 weekend weathercaster when I came in 1978.  He was appointed their Chief Meteorologist after Dallas Raines & John Hambleton left for other markets.  Dan retired and now does some very nice photography.  Check out his website and see Dan with grey hair, which I can say is better than no hair!  We all looked so young 40+ years ago!  Stay tuned!

It must have been a very SLOW weather week. A Halloween pumpkin carving contest? What were they thinking? There must have been a fishing tournament somewhere for you guys to go out and catch some
trophy redfish... Just kidding
As Paul Harvey use to say, “And now you know the rest of the story!”
We enjoyed seeing some of your history and your colleagues.

Thanks again Chief Meteorologist Bob Breck for all the years!
