The Cold Is Coming, But Not Right Away...

One of the Saints past ad campaigns had a song that said..."The Saints are Coming, the Saints are coming".  Well, same with the cold as the first real cold front has plunged out of Canada down over the Rockies dropping Denver from 92 yesterday to their current 34 degrees.  Hey, I want some cool relief, but let's not get carried away.

Look at St. Louis being 86 while Kansas City is 57.  Satellite views also show how the offshore flow has blown the smoke into the Pacific off of Washington & Oregon with smoke plumes still stuck over California & Arizona.  Yesterday Nevada was smoked covered but not today as they are clear.

Hopefully, under the clouds over Utah & Colorado, the fires are being diminished as snow & rain falls?  This is so sad to watch.  Even sadder when you hear that one of the fires was accidentally set by fireworks during a "gender reveal" party.  What were the parents thinking? Locally, our humidity has returned along with a few showers.

The Tropics remain quiet in the Gulf and Caribbean with a small chance for development along the Carolina coasts.

Again, since the MJO is in the unfavorable (sinking air) phase, I would be surprised to see any rapid development there.  Way far out in the Atlantic are several systems with more waves getting ready to move westward off of Africa.

NHC has increased the next wave above to come off to 70% chance to become Sally.  We probably will have 3, maybe 4) named storms at one time in the Atlantic.  Tropical Storms Paulette & Rene are predicted to curve to the north and not bother anybody, while it's too soon to know about Sally.
The GFS (American) model brings Sally across at a lower latitude getting into the Caribbean & into the SE Gulf in 7-10 days.   Can't get too nervous yet since we have nothing to follow.   There are other waves behind what might become Sally so we have a long way to go before I can call "the Fat Lady" to sing "Turn out the lights..."  If we can start getting some real cold fronts down into the Gulf, I'd make that call.  Right now, it looks like no front for another 12-14 days at the soonest.  Bummer.  Stay tuned!
