The Seasons are a Changing...

Today begins "Meteorological Winter" which is, climatologically speaking, the three coldest months of the year (Dec-Feb).  You can really tell why by looking at the Full Disk satellite view.

As the Earth's rotation rapidly brings on night approaching the East Coast, look at how bright the South Pole shows up compared to the North Pole, which has now entered into their months of Winter darkness.   Astronomical Winter here won't begin until Dec. 21st when we experience our shortest day of sunlight.. It's so interesting to watch the cold air plunge down over the warm waters of the Gulf.

this latest cold front has cleared Florida and is across central Cuba.  The western part has pushed down over the Yucatan with the cold air clouds bubbling up well south of the Louisiana coast.   It won't take long for those clouds to retreat back to the north tomorrow as the surface high shifts to our east.

With clear skies and light winds, temperatures will quickly fall into the 30s by 6-9 pm and another frosty morning is likely, especially north and east of Lake P.

A deep storm over New York is bringing the first significant snowfall to many locations in Ohio & Pennsylvania.  That storm has driven cold, dry air over us and with dew points in the teens and 20s, expect another night of very chilly temperatures.  A big warm up begins tomorrow lasting through Thursday as highs recover back to the 60s & 70s.  Another front arrives early Friday cooling us back into the 50s for this weekend.

Eventually, all those clouds off the West coast will start heading into California, but for now they remain sunny & dry.  We will see clouds return tomorrow, but any rain will hold off until after dark.  Our best rain chance comes later Thursday into early on Friday.  Stay tuned!
