Most Fishing Stories Are whoppers...

As many of you know, I love to golf & fish, probably because in those sports, size really doesn't matter.  Some of the longer drivers on the PGA Tour are small (5'9") guys (Fowler, McElroy, Thomas).  Size is even less important in fishing , unless you're talking about big game fishing.  I could tell you I caught these nice size fish yesterday.

But like most fishing stories, I'd be lying and telling you a whopper.  I really did catch these fish, but not yesterday.  Nope, the weather turned against us and we ended up with 2 keeper trout, 3 sheepshead and 2 bass.  We were catching some small trout until a cold front blew through around nine dropping temps 10-15 degrees and giving fish a case of the lock jaws.  This is often a tough time to catch fish due to cold water and rapidly changing weather conditions.  Doesn't mean Captain Hylton & I will quit trying.  Now back to the weather.

Monday I talked about the weather battles coming and we have 2 on today's map.  One is associated with an upper low over Missouri while the other is a powerful disturbance along the West Coast.   Look at the 7 day precipitation amount for California.  That's 7-10 inches, which in the mountains means many feet of snow.  The weaker midwest system is bringing 3-5"+ snow totals that will head to the East Coast tomorrow.  Down south, strong storms hit Tallahassee causing some damage to their airport.

Locally, skies are clearing after this morning's brief downpours with colder and drier air pushing in.   If you are dressed for the cold, the next 2-3 days will be delightful.

Some Arctic air has entered the northern Plains, but without a deep East Coast upper trough, the core of the cold stays away from us.  Still you'll need the sweaters and coats tomorrow & Friday with near freezing temps. expected across the Lake.  Another warm up comes this weekend before our next front on Monday.

The real chill won't arrive until after dark, but winds already are cranking from the NW and will gust 30-40 mph later tonight.  The next 2 days will be noticeably colder, but the Sun will be back!  Stay tuned!
