2nd Coldest & Happy Mardi Gras...

With NOLA basically shut down because of Covid, Mardi Gras 2021 just doesn't seem like a special day.  We have joined the rest of the country where it's just another Tuesday.   Not so 5 years ago when I was honored to be the Grand Marshal of Argus.  Only my Montana son (Ryan) wasn't there to celebrate.

I guess it's a good thing we can't parade with such cold temperatures.   Look at some of the new record lows from around the country.  Many were not just broken but shattered!  12 below in Oklahoma City!  1 below in Dallas!  Of course I have more snow pictures.

We begin with "Mandy in Monroe" who had to show how pretty it looks at Neville High School.  The next two are from my niece & nephew Lindsey & Hunter in Dubuque, Iowa where the foot deep snowfall allowed temps to drop to 20+ below zero.   Burrr!!!

We head east to Whiting, Indiana where my sister (Carol) and her husband (Joe) show how they dig walkways out of the deep stuff.  That last one scares me since look at the long icicles hanging from the rooftops.  Yikes!  Where they fall off, they could hurt ya!

Next we head to Missoula, Montana where my son (Ryan) shot pictures of the Clark Fork River that is normally fairly wide, but is almost totally iced over.   Burrr again!

Most temperatures at noon are still below freezing except for the North Shore & the Mississippi Gulf coast where the sun is shining.   Clouds will break later this afternoon, but another system is coming to bring more clouds back for Wednesday and Thursday.

Once the axis of the high shifts to our east, we'll see a rapid but brief warmup coming for Wednesday PM into Thursday.   SPC even indicates there could be some severe storms around with the potential for 2-3" of rain mainly north of Lake P.

Another cold surge will follow on Thursday, but the weekend looks brighter with a warming trend.

We may need to drip the water again tonight as it appears we'll won't break freezing this afternoon, especially if the sun doesn't come out.  I'll post on that later.  For now, I turned off my faucets.

And finally, of course the Global Warming Scientists/Alarmists just have to connect the cold with climate change.   Note how the graphic doesn't have this year's lows for Dallas/Ft. Worth which would be right there with the freeze of 1989 (arrow).  Remember, they can never be wrong since climate change/global warming means more weather EXTREMES.  I think the folks in Texas would easily choose more heat versus more cold right now!  I'll post later this afternoon.  Stay tuned!

It's pretty scary that some people have invented a system with political implications wherein, no matter what happens, they can never be wrong!

Saw the temperature today and I came here to see where my snow is, lol, thanks for the post Bob.

I'm not an alarmist, but what does the trend line say? Including extremes or even regardless of extremes the trend is warmer the past 50 years according to that graphic. Is it political or is just data?
