It Is Time, Let The Dripping Begin...

On my last post I showed a graphic with a time line for many location regarding when they should start running their inside water faucets.  It's based on the old pipe rule that says you begin running your water when the temperature reaches 28 degrees and is expected to stay there or lower for 4 hours or longer.

It called for Jefferson to start dripping at 7 PM.  Even though the airport (MSY) reports 30, my backyard gage shows 28,4...time for the dripping to begin.   Note the temp. in my back sunroom is down to 57.

I have 2 100 watt bulbs heating my back shed so my potted plants should be OK.  Note, tonight is the only night on the South Shore where we need to worry about pipes.  Another cold surge follows the Wednesday-Thursday system before a big warm up begins for the weekend.

I promised you more snow pics and these are again from my son (Justin) in Edmond, OK.  My grandchild (Ethan) stepped outside and kind of wondered what is this stuff?  Tried walking in it until he slipped and plunged into it.  As you can see, they got 4-5".  But as Lee Zurik often says...but there's more!

These pictures are from around my sister's (Carol) house in Whiting, Indiana.  They have over a foot on the ground and, as she texted..."we're running out of room to shovel the stuff!"   Hope you snow geeks are satisfied?!!!   You can have that nonsense.   Now let's be sensible on keeping the water flowing tonight.  Every faucet doesn't need to be running, just the ones farthest from where the water comes into your home.   If you don't know where that is, figure it usually is towards the front of your house on either side.  Just a thin drip from both hot & cold as we don't want water pressure to drop so low we can't flush the toilets or fight any fires.  If the sun's out in the morning, we should be able to turn off the water by 9-10 AM.   Let's try not to wash the clothes until Wednesday.   Be smart, stay warm and stay tuned!

Tuesday morning near Picayune: very tiny little snowflakes falling when I went to check my mailbox. Smallest flakes I've ever seen--guessing maybe 3 or 4 mm. And 26 degrees at 10 AM. So cold!
