All the radar returns have moved north & east of us. Our currently wet roadways will begin drying up so that when the freeze line arrives before dark, there should be little icing here except around some leftover puddles. Just so many of you snow lovers don't go into depression, check out these snow pics from my friends.
These pictures come from "Mandy in Monroe" where at noon they're 18 ! Don't think it'll melt today.
The next group comes from my Son Justin & his wife Emily in Edmond, OK. The have a frozen water pipe as their temperature reached minus 5 this morning!
These last two are from my sister Carol & her daughter Brianna up in NW Indiana (Hammond/Whiting). Just me, I'm happy we didn't get into any of that nonsense. Remember, snow & ice can be deadly like the 100 car pile up near Forth Worth and the 40+ pile up near Oklahoma City.
So the next concern is tonight's hard freeze.
IF we see these temperatures Tuesday morning, there will be serious pipe issues. 10-15 degrees across the North Shore? 20-25 degrees South Shore? Yikes! The rule is, once the temperatures get to 28 or lower for 4 hours or longer, you need to run a thin stream of water in the sink farthest from where the water line comes into your house. I usually run half hot & half cold, but only in a thin stream as we don't want water pressures to get so low that we can't fight fires.
Do NOT start running water yet. In fact, most of us can wait until well after dark, unless you live north and west of Lake P. It's still below zero in Oklahoma City at noon! Miami sure look nice!
So the next question is...when will the sun be back? It's hard to tell clouds from snow on the satellite view, except it does look like we can see the rivers and lakes back in Texas. That should mean we could see some clearing later today into Mardi Gras. That won't last as the next system is already coming into the Rockies and will bring the cold rain back here by late Wednesday.
There is light at the end of the tunnel. After our freeze threat tonight and the next system Wed-Thursday, we get back into sunshine for Friday into next weekend when we could warm to 65-70! After this cold spell, 70 degrees will feel warm. Till then, stay warm and stay tuned! I may post again later today with more snow pictures.

Bob fox 8 has a Facebook graphic by parish what hour to start running your water. It says 7pm Jeff parish 8pm Orleans. Isn’t that WAY too early ? I was thinking wait til it hits 28 around midnight or 1am. Also so the trickle just needs to go from 1 sink in farthest bathroom from main line. So the other 2 bathrooms and kitchen sink don’t need a trickle also? Please address. Thanks for the great updates. Joe.
Bob foxx8 Facebook has a chart telling us what hour to start running faucets by parish. It says Jeff parish 7pm Orleans 8pm- isn’t that WAY too early ? I was thinking wait til it hits 28 around midnight or 1am. Also only one sink farthest from main line ? I have 3 bathrooms so no running on the other 2 or kitchen sink ? Please address thanks for great coverage.
I’m confused. Why is fox 8 saying start running faucets 7pm? I thought 28 or lower which would be midnight or later ?
Thank you for ever explaining what's up....be warm and well...Allen Bealle
