Clouds Cling to & Cover Gulf South Except Florida

The cold front that swept away the low level moisture yesterday, has left a large layer of low clouds across most of the Gulf South.  This has caused temperatures to remain in the 50s all day with a brisk north wind making it feel colder.

The clouds should linger overnight into Saturday with some clearing during the afternoon.  Actually, if you're dressed for it, today feels very nice due to the drier air.

We'll stay dry through the weekend into Monday before our next system off the West Coast brings back rain chances for Tuesday through Thursday.  Thursday could see another severe weather threat depending on how close to us the upper energy comes.

With clear skies over much of the nation (except the SE), you can see how the higher sun angle warms things up.  Much of Montana is in the 60s, way warmer than us!

Finally, the lack of clouds allow us to see the remaining & shrinking snow cover.  Note most of the upper Mississippi River drainage basin has seen the greatest melt already.  So unless we see some heavy rain events across the Ohio Valley in the next 1-2 months, we should not see the need to open the Spillway this year.  Enjoy the comfy cool feel to this weekend before we warm up next week.

With warm air returning, you know the humidity will also be back.  Overnight lows in the 40s & 50s will slowly creep back above 60 by Wednesday.   As Nicondra would say, "not too shabby a forecast".  Stay tuned!
