The top view is snow covered Long's Peak taken from Centennial Park followed by photos from around Longmont tkaen by my son Rob. The bottom is his truck which required some attention before he was able to leave for work.
The snow started in Longmont around 4 PM (top photo) and became heavier before dark.(Next photo). After daybreak, you could see a depth of 6-8" of heavy, wet, heart attack snow. Anyone ready to sit in the lounge chair tonight?
That system is pulling across Illinois, Indiana & Michigan tonight with much colder air behind the front. It's in the 70s ahead of the front, but in the 30s & 40s behind it.
Lots of clouds linger behind the front and that is contributing to the cold temps. Note, very few clouds are with the front over Texas & Louisiana. We are not expecting anything more than a stray shower or sprinkle as the front blows through after midnight.
The bottom graphic has dew points already in the 40s over us and that is why we do not expect rain with this front. Despite sunshine tomorrow and Thursday, highs will struggle to reach 70 with brisk north winds requiring sweaters and jackets once again.
Clouds and showers will return during the day on Friday with the best rain chances after dark into early on Saturday. If the timing proves perfect, the Zurich Classic Golf tournament out in Avondale could stay mostly dry. Sunday, Monday into Tuesday look terrific with another front coming on Wednesday. These fronts are not like those in Winter. They bring some cooler & drier air, but it's not that Arctic chill that I hate. Let's enjoy this while it lasts since time is getting short.
