Severe Threat Late Tonight Should Stay North...

We have seen a pattern shift that is once again bringing fronts into the West coast . That should also mean those systems will be progressive (fast moving) as they trek across the country, each bringing threats for severe weather typical of Springtime.

The upper disturbance over the Rockies (dashed line) will race across us overnight bringing clearing skies and lower humidity for the second part of the weekend.  SPC has outlined & increased the risk level for later tonight into Saturday.  The greater severe weather threat should stay north of Lake Pontchartrain along with the heavier rain totals.

The top graphic is valid through tonight with the next valid for Saturday.  The next is the heavy rainfall totals with the reds & oranges being 3-5".  As you can see, models are giving the South Shore less than one inch.  The bottom graphic has the current watches in effect with the red being tornado watches.

You can see why since 60 & 70+ dew points are surging northward out of Texas.   A large area of clouds is moving ahead of the upper disturbance along with increasing showers & T-Storms.

Currently these storms over Texas & Oklahoma have lots of lightning so we could be awakened here after midnight as these storms pass by.  Make sure your FOX 8 Weather App has the alerts turned on in case warnings are issued.

You'll notice the high winds from the south tonight will switch to the WSW tomorrow.  Wind speeds will stay up until late in the day with Sunday looking exceptional.  That nice weather will last into Tuesday before another , stronger upper system approaches on Wednesday.  Make sure you watch David's late weather tonight before you go to bed.  Stay tuned!
