We really didn't see any impacts from Fred except for a rise in tides east of the river. Even though Fred was very far away, look at how that water rise here was reflected in a one foot rise in the Mississippi at the Carrollton gauge.
Even though we will not have any tropical threats for the next 7-10 days, that does not mean the tropics are quiet. NHC is tracking 2 other system, both expected to become Hurricanes.
Tropical Storm Henri is SW of Bermuda and Tropical Storm Grace is battering Jamaica. Grace will be blocked from a northward turn by high pressure and the NHC's forecast track heads it westward.
Unless something strange happens, Grace should be Mexico's storms. She might even regenerate in the eastern Pacific next week?
Tropical Storm Henri is looking better organized and should become a hurricane. Fortunately the track keeps him east of the U.S.
On the surface weather map, I'm looking for cold fronts, but none are showing up. That means our only cooling relief will come from daily spotty storms that will become less likely as an upper high builds over us. A real August heat wave is setting up.
Just so I don't totally depress you, here's two graphics with some positive news.
Other than Grace and Henri, there is nothing out in the Atlantic except a huge plume of Saharan dust that might keep the MDR (Main Development Region) quiet for a week or two. Better news, Canada is getting colder. Yippee! Come on down!
Finally, I'm really discouraged by the current surge in COVID deaths and hospitalizations, Had I not been vaccinated last January, I'd be scared to death to leave my house. Every day it's another sad story from someone who wouldn't get the shots, gets COVID and dies. It's not an old folks disease! The Delta variant is now infecting children and those under 30. The data doesn't lie. Get vaccinated now! FYI, I've scheduled my "booster Shot" as soon as it's available. It's truly a matter of life or death, if not for you, then maybe your child or family member. This is a health safety issue, much like seat belts or smoking indoors. Do what's right for everyone. Stay tuned!
