Much of Alaska is below zero with parts of northern Canada 20-25 degrees below zero. If an East coast upper trough develops later this month, that chill will be heading into the lower 48. We have reached the time of the year where record lows are in the 20s. With the Tropical Threat gone, our focus now turns to the cold weather threats...snow, freezes, busted pipes.
Right now, the storm track is across the northern states and southern Canada. That keeps the real cold up north. Models are hinting that a shift in that track will happen later this month bringing the chill southward. I remember in 2008, the year of my rotator cuff surgery, we had a measurable snow on Dec. 8th. You snow geeks need to be getting excited as we are approaching that time of the year.
We'll see our next cold front pass through Thursday afternoon bringing back sweater and jacket weather for this weekend. This will not be as chilly as the last front.
A stronger front arrives next Monday that will have the North Shore near freezing on Tuesday & Wednesday.
