Weather Won't Change Here Until Next Year...

It's difficult to come up with something different to talk about when the weather is the same oh same oh day after day.  I've talked about the persistent upper pattern (West coast trough, SE ridge) that really hasn't changed in over a month.  It has resulted in usually heavy snows in places that don't normally get snow (Seattle) with welcomed rains over California & the SW.  Note the large blob of moisture still to come sitting off the Baja.

So when will this upper pattern change?  Models are showing the western trough finally redeveloping over the Great Lakes by the SECOND WEEK in January.   IF that proves reality, the super cold (25-35 below) currently over Canada will drive southward into the lower 48 possibly bringing us a freeze by mid month.

The top 2 graphics are the current upper flow with the bottom being valid for January 6th.  The media will be all over it calling it the "Polar Vortex".

In the short term, the storm track stays over the northern states keeping us in the warm air sector.  Temperatures  will be way above normal/average , giving  MSY its warmest December on record (1946).

Let's hope the upper pattern changes so I'll finally have something different to talk about.  Oh, almost forgot.  Saints 20 Dolphins 17.  Go Saints!   Stay tuned!
