We have seen a several of weak lows (clippers) dive out of Canada following the modest trough over the East Coast. But that trough is expected to deepen as a strong disturbance over Seattle rotates down the trough.
The top graphic is from this afternoon showing that modest East Coast trough with the Seattle impulse along the West Coast. The bottom view is valid for Sunday Morning with the Seattle system now over Central Alabama. How far south that closed low gets will determine whether we see any snow. Models are saying yes!
Now don't get out the shovels since all we'll see is some passing flakes. However, if you or your family has to drive north of Jackson-Birmingham this weekend, make sure they leave early on Saturday. Saturday night the heavy snow will make driving dangerous.
The brutal Arctic air (30-40 below) in Canada will drive down over the Great Lakes and head our way. I will use Saturday to prepare my yard for a freeze on Monday and Tuesday mornings. I'm thinking 24-28 across the North Shore and 28-33 south of Lake P.
Friday looks to be another winner with plenty of sunshine and highs 68-73. SPC is not indicating any severe weather with the front on Saturday probably since all of the low level moisture has been swept down into the Gulf. Note the dew Points are in the 30s & 40s.
FOX 8 is keeping the South Shore above freezing, but I'm not as optimistic. The next 3 weeks, historically, is the coldest time of the year. 2022 is looking like that will be the case. Get outside and enjoy Friday and Saturday morning. It will hurt to go to Church on Sunday with temps in the 30s, wind chills in the 20s & perhaps some flakes! Stay tuned!
