Let It Snow, Let It Snow, But For Us It's No Go...

Many of you have been voicing your views regarding your desire to have snow HERE.  If you've been watching TWC or the network newscasts, you know lots of folks have been slammed this week with snow & ice.  I thought you would like to see some scenes of da "white stuff".

I love to look at the cameras in and around Denver that show what great views you see when you have topography.  The bottom pic is overlooking Pearl St. in Boulder where a couple is walking the cleared sidewalks.

If you're on a ski vacation, snow is great.  If you have to get off to work, clearing the driveway & your car can make for some misery.  I mentioned yesterday that our chances for seeing any frozen precip. had diminished.  Today's upper air charts confirm that trend.

The energy rounding the base of the trough is kicking out of the Rockies.  The second graphic is from this morning with the arrow pointing to the upper disturbance.  For us to see any sleet or snow, we would need for that energy to dip and close off over us on Friday.  As you can see, models keep the trough very progressive moving it quickly to the east coast.  The third view is valid for Friday morning with the bottom valid on Saturday morning.   Based on what I'm seeing, that would mean all of the moisture will be gone when temperatures get cold enough to produce and snow.  So all I can do is satisfy you with snow pictures from where the snow is welcomed.

Look at the skiers coming down the slope at Winter Park, CO.  Or overlooking the frozen lake at Keystone, or how about enjoying an afternoon cocktail at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs.  Ahhh, snow is nice, but not here.

Unlike last week's blizzard, the nasty weather is being caused by a slow moving Arctic front that is being overrun by the fast SW upper flow. Note the core of the cold up in Canada is 45-50 below zero!   In the warm air sector, we have severe weather.  Behind the front it's ice & snow.

The temperature drop off is "extreme" (30-35 degrees), going from Spring-like to winter in a matter of hours.

Back in the cold air, there is some sleet & snow in Texas.  The upper SW flow will keep the showers and clouds around all day tomorrow and you'll need the heavy gear since temps will be mainly in the 30s.

It's easy to find the front based on temperatures and wind direction.  Look at all the lightning on radar.  Rain totals have been 2-3"+ with more to come.

Sunshine is not likely to return until Saturday, but you can see there is no major warm up for the next 5-7 days, if not longer.  I brought all my tropical plants into my shed and will leave them inside until I see a warming trend.  Night time lows will be below freezing on the North Shore and close to it south of Lake P.  Hey, let's get all the cold weather out of here during the next 2 weeks so the parades leading into Mardi Gras don't have to deal with the chill.  Stay tuned!

Hello From Augusta, GA:
You're right Bob, snow is great when you can just play in it but no fun whatsoever when you have to work in it. Similar to you, I moved to NOLA in early Feb.79 from Philly via my job, and showed up in town during the New Orleans police strike right before Mardi Gras. What a hoot that was. Anyway, back to snow, sleet and ice. They can keep it up north and out west.
I haven't shoveled any of that white stuff since Jan. 79. I can remember getting out of my car and stepping over (or around) 3-4 foot snow drifts just to make a phone call to my office (yes in a phone booth). Keep reminding the locals and showing them pictures. Stay well.
Ricky (formally one of your old weather watchers from Old Jefferson).

We do NOT need the snow and ice down here! Let's be honest, people down here can barely drive IN THE RAIN!!! Show and ice will make driving ANYWHERE next to IMPOSSIBLE! And I've lived down here my entire 50 yrs of life!
