The aerial views show the significant damage to many homes with the bottom pic indicating one house completely blown off its foundation. That is why it received the EF 3 category.
By comparison, an EF 3 tornado has the wind speed of a Cat. 5 hurricane. What was unusual when looking at the storm reports, there was clearly a damage track from Texas across north Louisiana into Mississippi. However, look at south Louisiana. No damage reports at all to our west UNTIL right over SE Louisiana. I can't explain that. Some already are saying "Global Warming". How does that not surprise me? If you can't explain it, blame it on AGW.
The upper low is lifting away bringing cooler and drier air down over the Plains. We have a very pretty stretch of weather coming into next week. It's scary to see how close the path of destruction came to the heart of the city.
Note the 70+ dew points have been pushed off the east coast with 20s & 30s spreading in from the west. This will result in chilly nights with comfy cool days. Next week will be warmer.
So go to bed tonight thanking the Creator for keeping you & your family safe, but let's pray for the young (25) man who lost his life in St. Bernard. Life is often not fair. Stay tuned!
