The timing on this front appears to be after midnight with most storms over by then. You'll notice a rapid increase in northerly winds gusting above 40 mph and NWS has issued a wind advisory into midday on Saturday.
In addition, NWS has issued a freeze warning for Sunday morning that now includes the South Shore too. I have covered some of my potted plants and will decide tomorrow afternoon whether I need to cover any in ground plants.
I personally don't think we'll see a freeze on the East Bank because the upper trough that is bringing the cold is not digging down into the Gulf. In fact, these graphics show how quickly it progresses to the east which should keep the core of the cold to our north & east.
This will be a quick burst of cold air followed by a rapid warm up.
Snow is falling not too far to our north. It was across Oklahoma this morning leaving 2=4" around Oklahoma City. My two sons (Ryan & Justin) sent me these pretty pictures. Snow geeks enjoy!
If you have travel plans to the NE this weekend, you're likely to run into delays by the airlines.
The reason we're likely to stay in the 40s on Saturday is lingering cloud cover that may not break until later in the day. If we clear sooner, we could sneak into the low 50s.
As you can see, the cooldown behind this front is 20-30 degrees. I'll be watching the San Antonio & Houston temps tomorrow morning. If they fall below 32, they we're likely to see that here Sunday morning. Right now I'm thinking 27-31 on the North Shore Sunday morning with the South Shore 34-38 except away from the Lake to our west where Houma/Thibodaux could dip to 30-35. With sunshine returning, if you're dressed for it, this will be a beautiful weekend once we get through these evening storms. Stay tuned!
