Arctic Blast Will Be Brief, Coldest Staying North & East...

Not much change from yesterday's thinking regarding the coming weekend freeze.  As the upper trough over the Rockies shifts to the east, we'll see a huge drop in temperatures from the 70s to the 50s for daytime highs. If you're north of Lake P., expect freezing temperatures (26-30) on Sunday morning.  Since water temperatures are 65-70, I expect areas south of the Lake to stay above freezing (34-38).  I am NOT covering or moving any of my plants today as we'll have Friday to do that, if necessary.

The top two graphics show the western trough.  The next is valid for Saturday AM with the bottom valid for Sunday AM.  Note how quickly the trough roars eastward and doesn't dip southward.  That should keep the core of the bitter cold north of us.

bruce showed these graphics on his 4 pm program.  The top has near freezing temps on the North Shore on Saturday with a "hard freeze" for Sunday AM in the bottom graphic.  Note there is a lot of light blue (near 32) across the South Shore on Sunday, but I'm thinking the warmer Lake will be our friend.

We're clear now, but the clouds to our south will overspread us before daybreak.  Friday will be warm with several rainy periods before the Arctic blast arrives after dark.

You can see how quickly the cold comes & goes.  Another upper disturbance will bring shower chances back for Tuesday.

So while the folks farther north are still feeling Winter, enjoy our clear skies and comfy cool temps tonight.  Changes are coming.  Stay tuned!
