Recent Rains Have Helped As We Reach The growing Season...

Now that the threat of frost & freezing temperatures are over, our focus shifts to the growing season for our lawns, trees & plants.  Our recent rains (especially over north Louisiana) have put a dent in this week's Drought Monitor.  The western states still need more rainfall, but east of the Mississippi most states have moist soil conditions.

the middle view is this week's drought monitor with the bottom one being from last week.  Note how the reds (extreme)  are gone from north Louisiana, but not over south LA.   The high water levels on the Mississippi have crested and are projected to drop below 11 feet in 2 weeks.

Unless heavy rains fall over the Ohio River basin in the next 3-4 weeks, we should not have to worry about any Spillway openings this year.  We do have another upper disturbance coming out of the Rockies, but it is farther to the north and not as strong as the last one.

Most of the showers will stay to our north tomorrow, but the upper disturbance could bring the stalled front in the Gulf back our way triggering mainly coastal showers that could linger into next week.

The best day this weekend looks to be on Sunday with slightly warmer temperatures.

Winter still lingers over the Great Lakes & Northeast where heavy coats are still needed.  The South has warmed up, but no real heat is showing up just yet. My friend (Tom in Tampa) texted me regarding the same line of storms that rumbled over us crashed on Tampa last night & this morning.  The vivid lightning, winds and heavy rains made for a scary time.

The center of the surface high is right over us, and with low dew points and clear skies, morning lows will be comfy cool.  Return moisture is beginning to appear over South Texas as dew points are back to near 60.

I'm off to a wedding reception (Summer & Kyle) tonight and the weather will be almost perfect.  Enjoy your weekend and stay tuned!
