Started Ugly, But Turned Into A Beauty...

With thousands of visitors in town for the basketball tourney, Mother Nature did a 180 degree flip between morning & afternoon.   After a dreary start, bright sun & warm temps  made for a showcase day.  The early storms were caused by an upper air disturbance that has pulled well to our east.

Unfortunately, clouds are left behind over the Gulf and models bring them back with some showers on Monday & Tuesday.  SPC is indicating a slight threat (Level 2) for severe storms late Monday into Tuesday, but the main energy appears to stay well north.

In fact, look how the model is keeping the upper energy way north on Tuesday and then diving a much deeper trough over the East by late week.

The top graphic is valid for next Tuesday with the arrow indicating a much less potent disturbance than the last two.  The next three are valid for Friday, Saturday & Sunday.   With the tough so far to our east, it means we won't have to deal with severe storms.  It should mean more fronts are coming keeping out highs below average/normal for Thursday through Sunday.

In the short term, Sunday into Monday look terrific before the front down in the Gulf heads back over us.

Clearly, the Great Lakes & Northeast remain Winter-like, with the southern states enjoying Springtime.

Houston is in the lower 80s and that's where we should be for Monday & Tuesday.  You cold air geeks needn't despair as the chill coming late week will require jackets & sweaters, especially at night.  Before then, we'll start to feel Summer-like with increasing dew points/humidity.  Note Brownsville's dew points is already in the 60s.  Enjoy tonight & Sunday & stay tuned!
