Late May Front Promises A Dry, Less Hot Holiday Weekend...

Sure we can get a "cold" front push through us this late in the Spring season.  Heck, it was a summer front that sagged into the Gulf in August of 1983 that was the genesis for Hurricane Alicia.   These fronts don't really bring us cooler air, but they can bring lower humidity.   That does make the almost hot near 90 degrees feel not so hot.  It really makes a difference at nights as the dry air allows for cooler nights.  So what is bringing us this front?

A well defined upper low is moving pretty far south and it's circulation has driven a front past us.  The heavy overnight storms are now clearing the Florida beaches and we expect no rain until late next week.  My 4 day rain total in Metairie is 4.85" but our lawns & gardens needed it.

The main affect behind this front is the way lower dew points in the 40s & 50s.   That is good feel air moving in for the next 2-3 days.

Pilots refer to this air as "severe clear" as visibilities extend for many miles.

Make sure you wear a hat and sunscreen this weekend if you're going to be outside.

It's a great weekend for the Greek Fest on Bayou St. John.  Opa!  Stay tuned!
