Hello Grand Isle, Let The Rodeo Begin...

The 2022 International Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo begins at daybreak on Thursday and I'll leave for the Island tomorrow morning.   Without any weather news, I'll not post again until Sunday PM.   The beauty of the Tarpon Rodeo is you don't need a boat to fish.  If you want to take your son or daughter and teach them to fish, there are many locations right off of Highway One on the way to Grand Isle.  In addition, you can fish the beach for specks or put out crab traps all without a boat.  Since there are many categories of fish, including a children's division, it's possible to win trophies in several divisions.

Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee-Sheng is leading the Rodeo this year and you can register on the east end of the Island under the Tarpon Rodeo pavilion, which gives you an opportunity to win a bay boat, motor and trailer.   You must be registered to win a trophy.  Come down for a day or make it a weekend visit.  I'll see you at the award's ceremony Saturday night.

The Tropics remain quiet, although some waves are coming off of Africa.  They are being squashed by a huge surge of Saharan dust.  There is newly formed Tropical Storm Frank in the Pacific but the Caribbean and Gulf are almost quiet.

There is a surge of Gulf moisture (green arrow) coming across Florida and into the Gulf.  There are no signs of any organization yet and models show nothing happening.  The persistent upper high keeps the main heat just to our north.  It has been a brutal summer for Texas, Oklahoma, Northern Louisiana & Arkansas.

It is cooler north of a stalled frontal boundary up north.  That triggered a massive line of flooding rains drenching St. Louis with nearly a foot of rain.

The top view is from 8:30 AM with the bottom from 4:30.  More showers are developing to their west.

Today's clouds and storms have given us some cooler relief.  I looks like a typical summer weekend here with some drying coming over the weekend.

It looks like a typical summer weekend here.   Next post Sunday PM.  Stay tuned!
