When You're Young & Having Fun, Too Much Sun...

Back in my youth (20s, 30s & 40s), I loved to sit out in the sun and get a deep summer tan.  I felt healthy, looked healthy and didn't need to wear make up for 4 months.  Little did I know all that tanning would come back to bite me (literally) in later life.  I've had 3 squamous cell carcinomas removed, the most recent this morning.  I will be wearing a bandage on my forehead for the next 3-4 weeks, but my surgeon believes 1) she removed all the cancer cells and 2) I should not have a scar.  So some wisdom from a senior citizen, limit your sun time when you're young.  Where sunscreen & a hat and NEVER get a sunburn.  Or you could look like this in your "golden years".

It's your choice Gang.  Don't be like Bob.    It's August and the Tropics still show no signs of development.

Blame the lack of Activity on Saharan Dust, the "wrong" phase of the MJO, Global Warming, whatever, we will not complain.  Remember, the peak of the season begins in mid August and lasts into early October.   The longer we go without storms, the better our chances for avoiding them as we know the change of seasons will start the cold fronts coming.

As you can see, SE LA/MS again had above normal clouds and showers resulting in temps being less hot.  I wish I could explain the reason for all the action, but there are no swirls on satellite or radar loops.  The trigger today seems to be daytime heating, coupled with land/sea breeze interaction bubbled up many tropical downpours.

It;s an August surface weather map with the Bermuda high extending over us pumping the Gulf moisture northward.  Weak frontal boundaries are staying far to our north with the real heat shifting more to the western states.

Some tropical moisture from Tropical Storm Frank has moved into California giving them much needed rainfall.  In fact, some areas received too much too quickly resulting in flash flooding.

For us, the dog days are here and we should stay wet until later this week.  Even then, some spots will have the daily showers.  Stay tuned!

Cheers to you for not being so vain, trying to help others. We could use more of that, time will pass and your wounds will heal, thanks.
