Nicole Was No Lady As Beaches Aren't Dere No More...

Nicole came ashore as a Cat. one Hurricane just north of Port St. Lucie.  From videos I've seen, her main impact has been beach erosion that brought many expensive beachfront homes into the ocean.  The pounding from Hurricane Ian 6 weeks earlier took out any remaining protection dunes leaving many homes to the mercy of the sea.   The drone videos are heartbreaking as rebuilding appears to be not a future option.

Granted, some of these folks have deep pockets and might try to save their land by constructing huge seawalls, but for most, that seems impractical.  It's a reminder, when you build near the water, you build near danger.

Our focus now changes to the next cold front that should reach us after daybreak on Saturday.  The western upper trough has brought down the Canadian cold and we'll get into some of that for the next 6-10 days.  Yesterday I mentioned that trough will NOT dig over the eastern states so the core of the cold (freezing temps) will stay well north and east.  Still, it will be quite a welcomed change for us and all of the eastern states.

One of the reasons the chill will be tempered a bit is that another upper disturbance in the southern/sub-tropical will bring back clouds on Monday with a good chance for soaking rains Monday night into Tuesday.  Another surge of cooler air will follow that disturbance.

In the short term, Friday looks fabulous with plenty of sun and warm temps 80+.  We might see a few showers with the front Saturday morning, but the rest of the weekend looks colder and drier.

As the remains of Nicole drench Georgia & the Carolinas, all we saw were some high cirrus clouds & moderate northerly winds.  The Florida beaches east of Pensacola did have a nasty, rainy day, but the sun will be back tomorrow.  I hope the coming chill will end all the allergy problems I've endured the past 10 days.  It's like clockwork.  Come early November & again in February/March, my sinuses act up.  Sometimes I have to go to my ENT Doc for a steroid butt shot, but so far the over the counter drugs are helping.  Stay tuned!
