Can We Go 5 Days Without Rain? That Would Be Happy Mardi Gras!

Usually during the Mardi Gras season, we see several fronts/disturbances that bring a rain threat to some parades.  Not this year as the rain threat last night held off until Muses was almost over, and today has been much colder but dry.  Looking ahead, the rain threat through Mardi Gras will be zero for Saturday, Sunday & Monday and only 20% for Fat Tuesday.  Why is that?  The upper air trough, that has been over the Rockies for most of this Winter, is predicted to remain in place giving us an upper SW flow that will not allow the core of the Arctic cold come down to us. It's still plenty cold (35-40 below) in Canada.

That SW upper flow has kept clouds streaming across the Gulf coast, but over time we'll start to see more & more sunshine.  Going out tonight, the brisk winds are making it feel colder.

With the winds staying up tonight, the chances for frost are remote.  However, those locations north of Lake P. could get near freezing.  I will leave my potted plants outside unless I see the 10 PM temps colder than forecasted.

Skies are clear to our west with the white being snow cover over the Rockies into the Plains.  The center of the surface high will move over us tomorrow allowing for lighter winds and highs near 60, perfect parade weather.

Sunday looks even better as highs approach 70.  Yeah, I know, Mardi Gras isn't Wednesday.  Nicondra pointed out she didn't shift the icons.  Enjoy your weekend and stay tuned!
