It's a Happening Out West

Rather than going over the same story here day after day, let's begin where there is a real weather story and that's the West, specifically California.    Heavy rains & snow (in feet!) are making for one crummy day.  Roads heading into the mountains outside Los Angeles were closed to all vehicles without chains as a huge upper low sits just off the coast.

All this moisture is great news in the long term, but it's causing numerous travel delays.  I can predict what this means for next Fall.  It should be an extremely active fire season as excessive moisture will allow tremendous vegetation growth (fuel).  On the other hand, if you love river rafting, this summer should be awesome from California eastward into Utah & Colorado.

Yeah, that's the little fella with my three sons & another family many years ago in the top photo.  All the snows this Winter should also make for some awesome scenery this Spring as I'm with Ryan & Rob many years ago outside Glenwood Springs, CO.  So the weather is not boring everywhere.

As mentioned yesterday, the front would stall and begin retreating northward over the weekend as the California low kicks eastward.

The top pic is the SPC's severe outlook for Sunday as the upper energy moves over the colliding surface air masses.

There are signs we'll go back to sweaters & jackets by late next week, but not for the next 5-6 days.  Enjoy your weekend despite the warmth.  My flowers love it.  Stay tuned!
