Still Hot, Still Mostly Dry, Still Quiet Tropics...

Yep, when I left for a weekend in Boston on Friday,  had nothing to talk about.  Oh for sure we did get some rain over the weekend that brought some relief from the daily heat.  But the over all weather pattern remains about the same with upper lows over the Great lakes and East Coast with a heat dome across the SW, Mexico into Texas.  What we haven't seen are the typical tropical waves of summer that bring moisture and daily rain chances.

There is an upper low south of Cuba moving to the west, but the big heat dome will keep that moisture well to our south.  Hannah Gard did show that the upper heat dome will shift back to the west for this weekend resulting in higher rain chances and slightly less hot.

Not all the nation is suffering with record breaking heat.  It's just that the southern states from California to Florida have suffered the most. Phoenix has set a new temperature record for longest number of days 110+ (18).

What makes our heat so brutal is the high dew points (75+).  The other big story is the extensive smoke over the east & south from the Canada fires.

The smoke blanketed the Boston skyline and made for a strange sunrise.  The bottom view is from 35,000 feet with deep blue skies above the smoke layer.  Finally,

The Saharan Dust is keeping the Tropical Atlantic quiet.  However, NHC needs something to do so they have upgraded Sub-tropical Depression Don to Tropical Storm Don.  he is halfway through making a loop and the close in look doesn't show me much.  When are the T-Storms of a warm core system?  Not my call.  Stay tuned!
