Breaking News, Army Corps Delays Northward Movement of Salt Water Wedge

As local governments rush to complete plans to combat the approaching Salt Walter Wedge moving up the Mississippi River, The Army Corps announced new dates for when the wedge MIGHT reach  NOLA.  New data/computer models indicate the higher sill the Corps has built south of Myrtle Grove is working slowing down the advance of the wedge by about 2-3 weeks.  What was earlier projected to be impacting the local intakes the last week in October, now is pushed back into early November.

Better still. some rain is falling farther up north.  It's not much, but models are indicating more rain is coming during the next several weeks.  Most of Louisiana/south Mississippi remains in exceptional drought.

The other big news is this Fall's first REAL cold front is coming for this weekend.  I mentioned yesterday, the cooling will come in several surges as the real chill won't arrive until Saturday morning.  With strong northerly winds, darn I say SWEATER WEATHER!

Also better news is several models are hinting tropical moisture/energy from a Pacific Tropical Storm might head into the Gulf by late next week.  Note the higher rain chances for Thursday.  I haven't called the "Fat Lady" yet since water temps in the Gulf remain well above 80.

Remember Hurricane Zeta came in late October a few years ago.  I'll feel more comfortable once those 80+ water temps dip into the 70s.

It's been a long time since we have seen the whole state under clouds.  Unfortunately, there is not a lot of rain falling from those clouds.  Once the front passes, our rain chances for this weekend dip to zero.  Finally.

Today I began my 77th  year on this planet.  For those of you who want to know how old I am, see the above picture courtesy of my dear friend Mark Ledet.   Just hope I bring some light into your lives!  Stay tuned!
