Could Be Driest year Ever?

October, historically, is our driest month with a couple of exceptions (1985).  MSY did get 1.05" in a downpour earlier this month, but most of us haven't had enough to wet the ground.  So with no rain likely for the rest of this month, we start looking at how much rain is needed to keep us from being the driest year ever.

As the bottom graphic shows, the 7 day rain total over us is zero.  That means, unless we get 11.65" in November & December, 2023 will be the driest year for MSY dating back to 1946.  No surprise the drought monitor is exactly the same as last week keeping most of us in exceptional drought.

Looking at the nation as a whole, the only rains are falling over the Great Lakes & Northeast.  None of that will help increase the river flow down here.

Some high clouds are flying off a hurricane over the Baja.  No cold fronts are coming for the next 7-10 days.

It is getting colder in Alaska.

it's only a matter of time before the real chill arrives next month.  ala in all, October has been a very nice month.  Stay tuned!
