The new drought monitor came out today & it's the same as last week. However, there is hope for later next week as the energy from a Pacific hurricane (Norma) will combine with moisture coming our of the Gulf resulting in a large area of heavy rainfall to our west & north. Some of that runoff will flow into the Red river & lower Mississippi north of Memphis.
The orange & red colors are 3-5" across Texas, Oklahoma into Kansas and also in eastern Iowa. As you can see, the 7 day rain outlook here is zero, but perhaps this is a sign of things to come?
Under the upper low over the Northeast, it's sweaters & jackets (30s,40s & 50s) while under the ridge it's summer-like heat.
So without clouds, we have no chance for rain and temperatures will close out October on a warm note.
Besides Norma in the Pacific, we have Tammy in the Atlantic that will just brush by the Islands well east of Puerto Rico. Tammy is a weak Cat. one while Norma is near Cat. 3. Can you tell the difference?
Did someone say the Saints played last night? Enjoy a great Fall weekend & stay tuned!
