The Wolves Are Arriving, Stormy Evening & Night...

Bravo to SPC, NWS and all local weathercasters who have been sounding the alarm for several days regarding our severe weather threat. SPC had the level 3 risk all along the Gulf coast & that is where the action is developing. SPC has finally issued a Tornado Watch for the upper Texas coast & SW Louisiana.  Plus they indicate the threat will spread eastward over us during the next several hours, but the timing is uncertain.

So what is causing all the nasty weather.  1) there is a strong upper disturbance over the Texas Panhandle moving into Oklahoma.  2) A strong warm front is surging out of the Gulf with temps over south Texas in the 70s & 80s.  3) A strong cold front is plowing in from the west.

With dew points approaching 70 south of the front, this is very much like a Spring-time situation.

These are static radar images.  You really need to be watching VIPIR on Ch. 8 as Bruce has been tracking a tornado to our SW.  It appears to me it'll pass west of Kenner, but the atmosphere is primed for more development.

Winds are roaring in off the Gulf creating high waters with coastal flood warning for many locations.  A high wind warning is up indicating we might see gusts to 60+.  As you can see, we're back to January reality tomorrow with a roller coaster ride for later this week.  Stay tuned to FOX 8 and have your FOX 8 Weather App next to you this evening.
