Now compare that to what's up over the Great Lakes & Northeast. Burrr!
Even with sunshine, many locations never made it above freezing. Add in some wind and it's still heavy coat weather. Not so down south. And it doesn't look like the cold is coming our way for awhile.
The upper East Coast trough is already pulling away with the Ridge to our west shifting eastward. That will bring us way above normal/average temperatures into March.
So one wonders "are we done with freezes?" We can & have seen light freezes on the South Shore well into March & early April, but those years are the exception, Without an upper East Coast trough developing, I may gamble and start planting my Spring flowers. Check the next 10 days.
The top graphic is today's upper air with a trough lifting out over the Northeast and a cut off low west of California. The bottom view is valid for mid day March 4th with a huge trough (Cold air) over the Rockies with a ridge over the Southeast. That keeps us warm with the potential for severe weather outbreaks to our north. Before I head over to Perino's, I have to clean up all the dead stuff in my yard from the January freezes. With this great weather, get outside and enjoy. 3 months from now (or sooner!) you know what's coming! Stay tuned!
