When God Winks, You Need To Pay Attention

Years ago, I read a book called "When God winks at you. How God speaks directly to you" by Squire Rushnell, a former executive at ABC News.  It opened my eyes and lead to my deciding to retire after God gave me 2 winks (Prostate Cancer, Pacemaker).  Sometimes we're given extra chances at living, just like my friend Jim Henderson, former voice of the Saints and longtime sportscaster, had earlier this week.  In case you missed his post on Facebook.

In his youth, Jim was with the "Evil Empire" before finishing his career at the rising phoenix of FOX 8!  I was honored to enjoy Jim's humor at FOX 8 and during many fishing trips.  On Monday, Jim had a quadruple bypass operation along with replacing his aortic valve.  He claims he's like brand new and we all wish him the best.   I'm sure he'll be back out on his favorite pond within a couple of weeks?!!!  Don't you just love seeing those early pictures of us when we had dark hair?

Weather-wise, most of the country is looking early Spring-like.  There is a weak feature moving across Ohio followed by another over Nebraska that will push a weak cold front through later tonight.  Note the lack of any cold air behind it.

A couple of T-Showers have formed along the frontal boundary, but the front is likely to slide by us with very little rain.  Note the 22 degree drop in dew points between SHV & DAL.  It'll feel drier for this weekend.  The next real cold front won't arrive until later NEXT week.

It's still plenty cold up over EASTERN Canada, but not so over Alaska & WESTERN Canada.

Some of that chill will dip over the Great Lakes and Northeast, but not down to us.  Usually, Alaska has to have the super cold for us to worry and that is not happening...yet.  Finally,

Today the new drought monitor map comes out.  Look at the map from 2 weeks ago (top view) compared to today (bottom photo).  Very few locations in the nation are suffering from extreme drought right now.  Certainly not the West Coast.  I've noticed my trees are budding!  Stay tuned!
